In answer to the question above, I would say period romance novels! If you find that strange, then let me explain why! Right from the start, I’ve had a keen interest in history and cultures of different eras. I love to immerse myself in a different world where love spoke a different dialect with a more profound meaning! The historical backdrops sketched in these romance books are truly surreal and blissful – perfect for the dreamy fiction reader!

Why do you think “rom-coms” are so popular? My Best Friend’s Wedding, Pretty Woman, When Harry Met Sally…and the list goes on and on! These romantic movies have a comic angle to them, thus making them a preferred choice of younger generations, who like to keep things light!

The same way, a generous dose of comedy is a great way to ease up an otherwise steamy and tense romance novel! Comedy can do a lot to a boring and predictable romantic novel. A comical element is also a wonderful way to spice up a long novel. It breaks the monotony and keeps the reader engrossed till the next twist in the romantic tale happens. All these are reasons why I absolutely adore romantic comedies!

The very first romantic comedy book I read was A Midsummer Night’s Dream written by other than, William Shakespeare. From the mischievous Puck to the charming Hermia, every character in this romantic comedy was portrayed beautifully by the talented Bard of Avon! Of course, nowadays you can find many contemporary romance novels as well with plenty of humor in them. ‘Til Somebody Loves You by Dee DeTarsio is yet another breezy tale about a copywriter who works in a Chicago ad agency. She has a major crush on her office colleague Dean Dineno. There is a lot of romantic action in this book interspersed with lighthearted humor in between!

My Favorite Romance Authors

Liz Fielding is one of my top favourites. Her emotional feel good romances take you to a paradise that’s full of love and happiness. Her novel “The Best Man and the Bridesmaid” won the Best Traditional Romance Novel at Rita Awards, while “The Marriage Miracle” won the Best Contemporary Romance” at Rita Awards. Whether it is a traditional romance novel with white weddings or modern romances with hot affairs, Fielding never fails to win one’s hearts with her poignant romance love stories.

My next favourite romance author is Jacqueline Braid. Beautiful women, gorgeous guys, and steamy hot love scenes – you’ll not be able to put a Braid romance novel down till you have read the last line! I love her contemporary romance novels. With strong independent female protagonists and equally strong-willed super-rich men, her stories are compelling reads.

Another of my favourite romance authors is Sara Craven. From cute love stories to seductive romance stories, her novels cover a wide genre of romance. Whether I want to read a sweet romance story or a hot one, I just grab a Sara Craven!

Not just these three, there are many more romance authors that I totally love reading. I spend most of my monthly budget on romance novels! What’s the Price of Passion? –A Review of The Price of Passion by Susan Napier

Sometimes the price one needs to pay for passion seems too much! Are Kate and Drake ready to give up their independence and insecurities to get together? This romance novel by Susan Napier has all the elements of a romance novel – a difficult past, passion, jealousy, and tender love scenes.

Pregnant and alone, Kate Crawford decides to meet her reclusive erstwhile lover to tell him about the latest development! She doesn’t know how to let him know about the pregnancy. To her chagrin, she finds him with another lady. Sparks begin to fly even from the first reunion meeting. Commitment-phobic Drake Daniels is suspicious of her motives and tries to find out why Kate had come back into his life.

Though they can’t stand each other, they don’t seem to be able to keep hands off each other. The rest of the plot line is punctuated by sensuous love scenes, jealous tussles, and hot verbal fights. The introduction of a three-legged dog brings a lighter atmosphere into the otherwise steamy novel.

Like all Stephanie Laurens’ novels, The Brazen Bride has a proud independent female protagonist with a strong, brave hero who is so very handsome. The third book of the Black Cobra Series, The Brazen Bride is a regency novel that centers on an ex-officer of the Crown, who has to deliver an important document to Dalziel, a parchment that could help destroy the cult of the Black Cobra.

One stormy night after a bloody fight with the cultists, who want to kill him and take the letter, Logan is washed ashore on Guernsey, which to all accounts is “ruled” by the heroine. The story then goes on to describe how Logan gets his memory back and finally remembers that he has to deliver the letter as fast as possible. Linnet offers to take Logan to Plymouth on her ship, from where he could continue with his journey. Slow till now, the story then plunges into fast action, with ship fights (if they can be called that) to sword fights with every turn of the page. Of course, in every step of the way, our heroine helps her fallen angel.

This third novel of the Black Cobra Series is indeed action packed, with the action in the first half limited to the bedroom (not always!) and the battles with the cult assassins in the second half. On the whole, I would call this a really good read!!

The sheer beauty and magnificence of the Regency Era has never failed to impress me! I’m an artist by profession and Regency romances paint wonderful mind pictures! She falls for the handsome and wealthy Robert Beaumaris, who always finds pleasure in helping her out of sticky spots! What’s amusing is that her pride was stung by none other than the witty Beaumaris!
